Short Term Course in ASD
Many professionals working in the field of disability, and parents of children with ASD find it vital to understand the nature and characteristics of ASD. They also sense the need to learn specific research – driven techniques essential in training and rehabilitating such persons. However, it is difficult for these professionals and parents to attend a full-time course in ASD. SOPAN realized this growing need and designed a course that would meet the requirement. After inception of Suvidya Centre of Special Education in 2015, the program is being conducted under the aegis of the college.
The Short Term Course in ASD is a capacity building program for in-service teachers, professionals, and parents of children with autism. The Course purports to develop an understanding about the nature and needs of children with autism, and focuses on providing hands on experience of working with such children. The Course has been running annually since 2007. It has been a popular choice as a continued professional development program for a range of practitioners, such as teachers, therapists, psychologists, counsellors and doctors. Many parents who want to understand the needs of their child with autism and how to help the child, have also attended the Course.

Course in Shadow Teaching
With the implementation of the Right to Education Act, many children with disabilities are given admission in general schools. However, schools often request that the child be supported by a person to cope with the demands of the curriculum. Such a person, also called ‘shadow teacher’ is expected to help the child within the classroom.
The Certificate Course in Shadow Teaching has been designed to address the need of supporting inclusive education of children with disabilities. It aims to provide the knowledge and skills required by a shadow teacher. The objective is to develop competence and capacity by orienting a course participant to nature and needs of children with disabilities, and exposing him/her to appropriate teaching and management strategies required to help such children.
The Course in Shadow Teaching is of 4-weeks’ duration
Commencement, Time and Days: The Course begins in July every year. The content (both theory and practicum) is covered through the week from Monday to Friday from 3.00pm to 5.00pm.
